Utah County Clerk’s Office Receives National Award for Online Marriage Licenses

Provo, UT – The Center for Digital Government (CDG) announced today that it has awarded Utah County with a 2024 Government Experience Project Award. This national recognition celebrates the innovative upgrades made to Utah County’s digital marriage license system, which has transformed the marriage licensing process by making it more convenient, secure, and accessible to couples worldwide.

The Utah County Clerk’s Office is one of 11 county agencies across the United States to receive this distinguished award. The recognition highlights the digital marriage license system’s groundbreaking features, including the ability for couples to apply for and receive marriage licenses online, participate in remote marriage ceremonies via videoconferencing, and securely verify certificates of marriage internationally. A significant upgrade in December 2023 improved security and enhanced the user experience, while the opening of the Clerk’s Digital Services Center in May 2024 doubled the capacity to conduct remote marriages.

Utah County Clerk Aaron Davidson expressed his gratitude to the team of employees responsible for these achievements. “This award reflects the dedication, innovation, and creativity of my staff. Their commitment to continuously improve our services has helped make the Utah County Clerk’s Office a leader in digital government services.” The innovative marriage license system has seen tremendous success, with Utah County on pace to issue approximately 25,000 marriage licenses in 2024 – nearly quadrupling the number issued just six years prior. Ongoing upgrades to the system, including an upcoming enhancement to the online application process, will ensure even more couples in Utah County and worldwide benefit from the forward-thinking approach of the Clerk’s Office.

The Utah County Clerk’s Office will be recognized during the virtual GovX Summit and Government Experience Awards on September 26, 2024. This event, hosted by the CDG, celebrates the trends and best practices in the evolving world of digital government services.

This is the second national award that the Utah County Clerk’s Office has received this year. Earlier in 2024, the office earned an Honorable Mention Clearinghouse Award from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission for its improved voting instructions guide.
